01What we do to the oil

Oil treatment

Processing carried out on site, with the transformer in place.

Scope

Vacuum purification, dehydration and degassing · hot-oil circulation · regeneration through Fuller's earth, removing acids and sludge rather than only particulates · full oil change and retrofill · retrofill to natural or synthetic ester · compliant used-oil disposal with chain-of-custody documentation.

Diagnostics and site work

Electrical diagnostics

Performed on site, with results interpreted against the asset's own history where records exist.

Winding resistance · turns ratio (TTR), vector group and polarity · insulation resistance and polarisation index · tan delta and power factor of windings and bushings · sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA) to IEC 60076-18 · excitation current · short-circuit impedance · dielectric frequency response · partial discharge to IEC 60270, including acoustic and UHF methods · core insulation testing · thermography under load.

Mechanical work

Drying

Moisture in paper is what limits the life of a transformer, and it is the hardest thing to remove.

On-site vacuum drying · hot-oil spray · low frequency heating (LFH), with documented before-and-after moisture assessment so the improvement is evidenced rather than asserted.

Monitoring and retrofit

Extending the useful life or the capacity of an asset already in service.

On-line DGA and bushing monitors · temperature and moisture sensors · SCADA integration · cooling upgrades for uprating · tap changer replacement · protection retrofits.
